Warriors Cubs ready for action

- Ross Roche

THE Warriors Cubs team will be gunning to get their Cubs week off to the best possible start when they take on the Cobras Cubs in Stellenbosch today.

The team, featuring the top players from the Border and Eastern Province U19 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola week teams as well as a sprinkling of U17 players, will be eager to impress at the annual junior franchise side showpiece.

“I think we have a very good mix of players from EP and Border, who both did well at the Coke week, so I feel we will do quite well in this tournament,” Warriors Cubs coach Andre de Beer said.

“The guys are keen for the first match. They are relaxed and know what to do.

“The Cobras side is made up of a number of Boland players who did well at the Coke week and a few Western Province players, so they will be a challenge.

“But if everyone plays to their full potential we can do very well over the next few days.”

The Cubs week will see the Warriors face off against each of the other five franchise sides Lions, Titans, Knights, Dolphins and Cobras.

With Border making the final match and EP only losing once in the Coke week, the players will look to take that form into Cubs week.

The Warriors Cubs squad: Sinethemba Qeshile, Siphamandla Krweqe, Luke Dallas, Jason Raubenheimer, Matt Dewar (Border U19); David Rushmere, Tiaan van Vuuren, Neo Pepeta, Campbell de Wet, Cole Schoeman (EP U19); Emihle Mgoqi, Akhanya Rebe (Border U17); Luke Beaufort (EP U17)
