Punters’ eyes on Kenilworth with no racing at Fairview

- Punters’ Pal

IT is one of those strange Fridays where there is no horse racing at Port Elizabeth’s Fairview track.

For the regulars at Fairview on a Friday afternoon this could be a very long day, but at least there will be racing at Kenilworth in Cape Town to keep an eye on.

Kenilworth Racing has turned this weekend into a double-header, built around the running of the Queen’s Plate tomorrow.

There will be racing at Kenilworth today and tomorrow – and in return Fairview gets to host a Friday-Saturday double-header with the East Cape Derby in May.

This meant the first meeting of the new year in Port Elizabeth was on Wednesday, with some exciting racing, helped by the Cape Town visitors of trainers Glen Kotzen and Justin Snaith.

The Snaith satellite yard showed it would be a huge factor this year by winning three races, including the Lady’s Bracelet.

Filly Merysagos only had to carry 53kg, which helped her to destroy the opposition.

So we will have to wait till next Friday for more action at Fairview when the Snaith stable will again be a factor in the Aloe Handicap for three-year-old fillies.

If the Snaith stable picks up the pace in Port Elizabeth, it will be an exciting year for racing in the province.

It is the time for the Port Elizabeth trainers to step up, with the gap that is left with the departure of top trainer Dorrie Sham.

Tara Laing has welcomed all owners to join her successful operation, after training exclusively for Mayfair Speculators.

Champion trainer Alan Greeff is enjoying yet another fine season and with the Gavin Smith stable getting back to its best, racing fans are in for a treat.

Yvette Bremner is another trainer enjoying a wonderful run.

Hedley McGrath is a big supporter of the Bremner yard and it is great to see that he acquired a share in Legal Eagle, the favourite in tomorrow’s Queen’s Plate.
