Top fillies join Met entries

-

THE already star-studded entry list for the forthcoming Sun Met was spiced up even more with the exciting news that facile Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes winner Oh Susanna has been supplemented into the R5-million race over 2 000m at Kenilworth on Saturday, January 27.

The three-year-old Australian-bred Street Cry filly will carry a mere 51.5kg in the showpiece event, and after the manner in which she disposed of the likes of Nightingale and Nother Russia she would have to be taken extremely seriously. Both these older females have proved highly competitive against the best males in the past, and are Met entries themselves.

However, according to trainer Justin Snaith don’t rush off to back her just yet. “She has been supplemented but is not certain to run at this stage.” Snaith said. “We will sit down with the connections and discuss what’s best for this filly before making a final decision.’’

Another exciting filly who has been supplemented is Mike de Kock’s four-year-old Irish import Cascapedia. The so impressive winner of the Grade 3 London News Stakes at Turffontein on Sunday is also sure to have her supporters.

A €170 000 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale purchase by Form Bloodstock, Cascapedia has won five of her six starts for one place and stakes of R461 850. She races in Jessica Slack’s Mauritzfontein silks.

A daughter of High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), Cascapedia was bred by Tipperary based Camas Park Stud and is out of the unraced Dansili mare Janoubi. The latter is a half-sister to dams and grandams of graded stakes performers in the UK & France and hails from the female line of champion Al Bahathri.
