RYNO van Zyl cracked a superb 102 as SA Home Loans Union romped to an emphatic 157-run victory over Schauderville in an NMB Premier League cricket fixture in Park Drive, Port Elizabeth, yesterday.

Van Zyl, batting at No 4, was the mainstay of the home team’s innings and he and Riaan Venter helped steady the boat from 64/3 to 268/4 in their team’s 50 overs.

He shared a match-changing partnership of 164 with Venter for the fourth wicket and struck 10 fours and four sixes in his entertaining 103-ball stay at the crease.

Venter also played a major role in his side’s total, scoring an unbeaten 72 off 91 balls, with six fours and two sixes.

Schauderville could only manage 111 all out in reply, with Ryno Hamilton taking four wickets for 33 in his 10 overs.

At BLG Gelvandale, in the only other game of the weekend, the home team were looking to continue the good form they have shown of late.

But after beating Jendamark United last week, Gelvandale succumbed to Mechatronic Uitenhage, by 38 runs, on a difficult pitch.

Uitenhage took the first strike and, despite a bright start, lost wickets regularly.

But the team eventually made their way to 132 in 40 overs – with Darius Botha hitting 26 and Zakir Patel, 25 – and that proved to be more than enough.

Remano October, Craig Stevens and Josh Dolley each took two wickets.

The Gelvandale team could only muster 94 in reply, with Cheslyn Plaatjies making 24.
