League matches spice up Bay action

MECHATRONIC Uitenhage will have their title credentials tested when they travel to face Jendamark United at the Dan Qeqe Stadium in Zwide tomorrow in one of five NMB Premier League cricket matches at the weekend.

Uitenhage have produced some good results this season, their most recent success coming against BLG Gelvandale last weekend.

But United will want to improve on their log position with a victory at home.

Last year’s champions have lost two of their first five games and cannot afford another defeat if they are to have a decent chance of defending their title.

Another intriguing fixture tomorrow will be that between SA Home Loans Union and PECC.

The sides are ranked sixth and seventh on the log respectively and a close tussle is expected between the long-time St George’s Park rivals.

Hosts Despatch will be tested by a wounded Gelvandale in the only other game tomorrow.

On Sunday, log-leaders United Brothers travel to Freeplay Park for what could be a tight fixture against Old Grey.

Much will depend on what kind of personnel both teams are able to call on.

The remaining fixture is a basement battle between Schauderville and Motherwell at the Moore Dyke playing fields.

The weekend’s fixtures are (home teams first, 10am start): Tomorrow: Despatch v Gelvandale, United v Uitenhage, Union v PECC Sunday: Schauderville v Motherwell, Old Grey v United Brothers • THE latest standings, according to the log-keeper, are (nine matches unless stated): 1 United Brothers 39 (8), 2 Uitenhage 38 (8), 3 Madibaz 1 35 (6), 4 Old Grey 32, 5 Gelvandale 28 (7), 6 Union 28, 7 PECC 27, 8 Despatch 20, 9 United 16 (5), 10 Madibaz 2 12 (4), 11 Motherwell 4 (10), 12 Schauderville 3 (10)
