Chance for Hearts to return to Safa-NMB SAB League summit

- Mogan Segadavan segadavanm@tisoblackstar.co.za

MAXIMUM points from their match against PE Sundowns at the Saints field this evening will see Hearts return to the top of the Safa-NMB SAB League table, even if it is just for 48 hours.

Hearts started the year as log leaders, but are now tied in second place with archrivals NMU Madibaz, two points behind Morning Stars.

Last week, Hearts had mixed fortunes, beating Roaring Tigers 2-1 and losing 1-0 to Fairview Rovers.

Sundowns lost 3-1 to Mabayibone Strikers and 2-1 to Ikamva Movers.

The match of the weekend should be the top-of-the-table clash between Stars and Madibaz at the Zwide Stadium.

Stars beat Major Chiefs 3-2 in a thrilling match last week, while the students returned to their winning ways with a 2-1 win over Motherwell Academy.

The winners of this match will move to the top of the log.

With just seven points separating the top eight teams, there could be several changes in the league table.

Young Killers, who are sixth with two matches in hand, could make the biggest leap.

They played Amarahamba United on Wednesday evening and will be back in action next Wednesday when they take on Hearts.

Golden Aces, who have risen from last to 13th in three weeks, face a tough match against Ikamva Movers at the Chevrolet Stadium on Sunday. Motherwell Academy and FC Winners, who are both battling this season, clash at the Mawabo Duybhe Stadium tomorrow.

The fixtures are: Today: Hearts v PE Sundowns (Saints, Gelvandale), Young Killers v Major Chiefs (tbc), Young Ideas v Highland Spurs (NU9 Stadium) Saturday: Roaring Tigers v Amarahamba United (Chevrolet Stadium), FC Winners v Motherwell Academy (Mawabo Duybhe Stadium), Despatch Pioneers v Fairview Rovers (Khayamnandi), Mabayibone Strikers v Camper United (Walmer Community field), Ikamva Movers v Golden Aces (Chevrolet Stadium) Sunday: Morning Stars v NMU Madibaz (Zwide Stadium), Roaring Tigers v Young Ideas (Chevrolet Stadium), Camper United v Fairview Rovers (NU9 Stadium), Motherwell Academy v Highland Spurs (NU2 Stadium)

THE registration for U12 and U14 boys for the Saints Soccer Academy will take place at 4pm today at the Saints field in Gelvandale.

Over the past two weekends, the club has hosted trials for U18 and U20 players.

“The response has been very encouraging,” recruitment organiser Greg Kops said. “The trials have had a spin-off for the senior club.

“This week, we started with preseason training and the biggest number of current players and possible new recruits turned up.”

There is no registration fee for the trials. Boys must produce certified copies of their identity documents and be dressed in white shorts and T-shirts.
