THERE was a disappointing field – especially in the women’s category – at the Love 2 Run Metlife Mall 10km race staged by the Achilles Athletic Club on Saturday.

While some leading EPA runners were taking a break after last week’s 50km ultra and 21km, organised by Body Concept Road Warriors, the others took part in the Big Tree 27km training run.

Former Two Oceans winner George Ntshiliza, 38, was the overall winner in a slow time of 32:46, despite a relatively easy course.

Nedbank Athletic Club filled four of the five top places.

Lubabalo Jusayi, who ran with a temporary licence, finished third to spoil the party for the Nedbank club.

Anele Voorman was the first junior men’s athlete, finishing fifth overall.

In the women’s category, 14-yearold schoolgirl Nalize van Straaten finished first in 45:35 – just two seconds ahead of 61-year-old Hanlie van der Westhuizen, with Terray Newcombe third, a further 13 seconds adrift.
