Perfect start to season for Purdon
EASTERN Cape Motocross sensation Tristan Purdon got his season off to the perfect start, claiming the overall lead after the first round of the TRP Distributors MXSA national championship.
Despite ending second in the first heat of the day behind Caleb Tennant, Purdon showed his championship credentials by battling his way through the field in the second heat to take the chequered flag ahead of him.
The result sees Purdon and Tennant level on 47 points at the top of the standings, with all to race for come round two of the championship.
Speaking shortly after his triumph in heat two, the Cathcart based racer said: “It was a good race, the guys have definitely stepped up their game this year, and judging by this first round, it’s going to be an exciting season.”
Riding with the number one plate on his bike, Purdon said the season would be tough as all racers were putting in good performances.
Also competing in the MX2 class, Purdon finished the day in third overall after a 6th-2nd finish after two heats.
Port Elizabeth-based Andrew Wren said it was a tough day at the office, but he would be hoping to bounce back in the next round, scheduled for early April.
Racing in the MX1 class this season, Wren finished the day in a disappointing 16th position overall, due to a 10th position in heat one and did not finish in the second heat.
