Pay rent owed or get out

-

I WOULD like to comment on The Herald front page story, “Eviction order for tourism hotspot” (February 19).

As far as I know, all tenant-landlord contracts are, in short, pay your rent or get evicted. How is it that the yacht club can owe so much money and not expect to be evicted? Why has the rent not been paid? Who should be held responsible for this mess that the yacht club finds itself in? In my opinion, they should all be fired.

Why whine when you have not paid the rent?

What about the staff/employees, because the decision to not pay the rent has affected them now?

I say shame on the decision-makers in the yacht club.

I wonder how many black members there are in this yacht club.

I also wonder how much fresh drinking water members use to wash down their elite status symbols.

I would not agree with Alan Straton that the yacht club is key to attracting sailing events to the city.

I would say it is our weather, our waters, our people and our prices.

The yacht club is maybe just a facility that they use.

I am certain that the port authorities can offer the same facilities.

The article goes on to say that the restaurant was only opened to the public in 2006, another exclusion decision finally being removed in 2006 – wow, who are these people?

The Hawks should look into this “not sub-letting restaurant”. It doesn’t sound right. If the restaurant has only been open to the public since 2006 what type of tourist hot spot are we talking about?

An elitist, exclusive club that doesn’t pay the rent on a site with great views of members’ own status symbols.

I am sorry I can’t agree with this in today’s South Africa. Stop whining, pay up or get out. Give someone else a chance if you don’t want to pay for the privileges that you have so obviously taken for granted for so long.
