Table tennis season kicks off with some intense action
THE Nelson Mandela Bay Table Tennis Union kicked off their first matches of the season last week.
Games were intense and many clubs had a great start.
In the premier league, Aryan A easily defeated newcomers Rockets A 11-0 with Dipal Bhana, Michael de Kock and Thiagasen Pather showing great form and winning all their matches.
Pather had a close encounter, shading Wynand van Eyk, of Rockets A 13-11 11-7. The other premier fixture developed into an exciting clash between Callies A and Livvie Alumni A.
In a close encounter in which Robert Kuscus came to the rescue for Callies A, the scores were level at 5-5 with the last match to be played.
Kuscus rose to the occasion, defeating Elton Bloemetjie 11-4 9-11 11-7 to clinch the match 6-5.
In the first league, Aryan C had a tough battle with Livvie Alumni B, ending in a 7-4 victory to Aryan C.
Jason Bailey and Kabeer Choonara, both from Aryan C, went unbeaten. Rockets B eased past Madibaz B to a 10-1 victory, which was led by Ashley Human and Franklin Moultrie.
Despatch B easily defeated Livvie Alumni C 11-0. Ruben Horne, Suresh Norman and William Ressouw showed fine form, winning all of their matches for Despatch B.
Despatch A eased over Callies B 8-3, with Julian Horne (Despatch A) making all the difference, winning all of his matches.
In the second league, Callies C easily defeated Rockets C 11-0. Brent Peters, Keenan Abrahams and Shannon Whiteboy from Callies C showed fine form.
CSL Damascus starred to win 10-1 over Callies D, with an unbeaten Clifford Bouwer (CSL) and Bradley Solomon (CSL).
Despatch C had an easy win over Aryan E with Brandon Mirams (Despatch C) putting up a good performance, with the end result 9-2.
