Most wary of affected foods

Residents tell reporter Yolanda Palezweni what they know about the disease and what they plan to do with the suspect food in their fridges:

Ntlanhla Mpetsho, 26, of New

Brighton: I just heard about it yesterday. I do have products at home and I still use them. For now, I’ll finish the ones I have at home and wait until it’s broadcast that they are safe again.

John Windvogel, 52, of Newton

Park: I heard about this on the news. We had some of the products mentioned and had to throw them away. I’ll never trust the Enterprise and Rainbow Chicken products again.

Luthando Namela, 19, of

Motherwell: The only thing I know about this listeriosis is what I’ve heard on the news. We have a few Enterprise products at home. We will definitely get rid of them. It is going to be difficult to go and buy the products again.

Sindiswa Mangele, 21, of

Walmer: I have a bit of knowledge about the bacteria. I hardly use the products and I currently have none at home. I do not really like the products and after the news I won’t even consider buying them.

Phagan George, 27, of

Bethelsdorp: We had Enterprise products at home. We returned them all to SPAR in Bethelsdorp. Even if it is broadcast tomorrow that the products are safe again, it will take time for me to trust Enterprise and Rainbow Chicken.

Bongolwethu Tshuni, 21, of Central: I have the products, I just bought my groceries. I still haven’t decided whether to eat them or throw them away. I’m a student, so I’ll continue buying them – but only when the health department tells us it is safe to eat them again.

Vuyelwa Gqalinyanga, 51, of

Missionvale: It was my first time hearing about listeriosis. I do have the products they mentioned. At home, we eat what is available because of poverty. We will continue eating the products and trust in God.

Buyisiwe Cithwa, 26, of

Bethelsdorp: I don’t know about the listeriosis bacteria, maybe it’s from the farm products. We have not yet bought the affected products. When they declare products as safe to use again, I will buy them – for now, I will not.
