Saints’ loss sets tone for weekend

SAINTS Football Club are languishin­g close to the foot of the table after suffering defeat in their opening two matches of the Northern Areas Football Associatio­n premier league.

The Gelvandale outfit find themselves only two places from the bottom of the log after another home loss when they went down 4-1 to Hotspurs on Friday.

The match was the curtain-raiser for the rest of the weekend’s fixtures which also saw other noteworthy wins and movements on the log.

Fairdene, who came off the back of a thumping win against Rangers in week one, went down 2-1 to Stardrift at Marock Road on Sunday. The day’s other game saw West Lake losing 2-0 away to Fairview Rovers.

On Saturday, all games went ahead apart from the Celtic versus Shamrocks match, which had to be called off as the Moore Dyke fields were not marked for a second consecutiv­e week.

Ramblers humbled Park United 2-0 in a nail-biter at Marock Road to move up to sixth place on the log.

Helenvale find themselves at the top of the table following their 5-1 mauling of Blackpool at Fairview while Rangers got their first win of the campaign with a 3-0 victory over home team Glenville.

Wolves occupy second place as they also picked up their first win, claiming a 3-0 victory over Bloom Callies at the Adcock fields.

A fixture which had to be postponed in week one was replayed at the weekend and saw Bloom Callies win 2-1 against Celtic at Fairview.
