PE Stars hold onto second place in league

A POINT from their goalless stalemate against Butterworth at the weekend was a good enough result for PE Stars to hold onto their second-place position on the ABC Motsepe League log.

Tornado are leading the pack by 17 points, so the battle for second place is on between Stars and EC Bees, of East London.

The Port Elizabeth side, who have a seven-point lead over Bees, will be happy to hear that the East London side were beaten 2-1 by log-leaders Tornado at the weekend. However, Bees still have two games. Meanwhile, Safa Eastern Cape last week confirmed Mthatha City had been expelled from the ABC Motsepe League.

City failed to pitch up for three of their scheduled league matches and were called for a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, which they also failed to attend.

Safa Eastern Cape provincial secretary Isaac Klaas said Mthatha City had shown no indication as to whether or not they wanted to appeal against the ruling.

“When you attend the DC, that is where you indicate if you would like to appeal or not. Mthatha City did not even bother to come to the DC to explain themselves, so the DC took it upon themselves to expel the team,” Klaas said.

“They were immediately stripped of their points, because there was no indication of an appeal from their side. By not attending the DC, that also shows disrespect.”
