FAIRVIEW Rovers moved back to the top of the Northern Areas Football Association table after a hard-earned 1-0 win over Hotspurs at the weekend.

All 16 teams were in action on Sunday as the Fairview Sports Grounds were a hive of footballing activity, with teams vying to go into the Easter Tournament on a positive note.

Kicking off proceedings on Sunday, Fairview Rovers were made to sweat for their 1-0 win by a determined Hotspurs side as both teams looked to gain a valuable three points. The day’s biggest shock came as Park United jumped to seventh place with their 4-1 drubbing of Shamrocks.

That result leaves Shamrocks a single point off the bottom. However, they have a game in hand after their week-one fixture was called off earlier in the season.

Celtic came out tops in a tightly fought contest when they beat West Lake 3-2.

Both teams now sit on four points, although Celtic must still play Shamrocks in a replay of their week-one fixture.

Helenvale United, who were leading the pack after week three, were handed their first defeat of the season as they went down 3-1 to Ramblers.

Saints also got up and running with their first win of the season as they edged past Rangers 2-1. The win sees them move to 12th position on the log with four points after four games.

The games between Blackpool and Stardrift, and Glenville and Bloom Callies, saw players struggle to find the back of the net, both matches ending goalless.

Defending premier league champions Wolves remained in the hunt with a hardfought 1-0 win over Fairdene to move to third spot on the log.
