Top visiting athletes expected for Freedom Run

WITH a winner’s purse of R12 000, there will once again be an influx of visiting runners for the 10km Motherwell Freedom Run on Saturday.

Even the 10th prize of R1 000 is a lot more than the winner’s prize in local races.

The second event of the Legacy Project races presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and supported by Motherwell Urban Renewal will start and end at the NU2 Stadium.

Central Gauteng athlete Namakoe Nkhasi of Nedbank CGA won the 10km race last year in 28:40, with Lebogang Phalula, of Boxer Superstar Athletics Club, picking up the women’s category prize with a time of 33:51.

The top EPA registered athletes, both male and female, will collect a R2 000 bonus with the next two receiving R1 000 and R750.

Entry forms are available from Brian Bands, The Footballer, Action Sports, Sportsworld, Sportsmans Warehouse in Port Elizabeth or Brocketts in Uitenhage until close of business today.

The first 400 entrants in the 10km race will receive free T-shirts.

Registration and late entries will take place at the NU2 Stadium in Motherwell from 4.30 to 7pm on Friday, and from 5am on Saturday.

The 10km will start at 7am, while the 5km will start at 7.15am.
