Laing holds the cards

- Herald Racing Editor

TRAINER Tara Laing seems to have a firm grip on the outcome of the main event at the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.

She saddles all of King Django, Free Agent and Trees Of Green in Race 6, a MR 80 Handicap over 1600m.

King Django won well last time over 1900m after a strong late run and could follow up with his fifth win for owner Mr JA Ferreira.

Callan Murray retains the ride and has a perfect No 2 draw.

King Django will carry 2.5kg less than he did last time, so everything seems to be in his favour.

Free Agent ran a promising second in his last outing, when he finished 2.35 lengths behind Soviet Cosmonaut after racing handy. Tomorrow he is badly drawn at 10, but he does quicken late.

Keegan Steyn retains the ride and should finish in the money.

Trees Of Green will have Ryan Munger in the saddle once again. Although he is also badly drawn at 12, Trees Of Green is a much better horse than his last run suggests.

The main danger to Laing’s trio is Alan Greeff-trained Breakfast Club, who is a fourtime winner from 17 starts.

The former Dennis Drier charge made a promising debut at Fairview last month when he finished fourth over 1200m, 1.40 lengths behind La Revere. He will prefer this 1600m trip and jumps from gate No 7 with Greg Cheyne in the saddle.

All The Bids is a competitive sort and must have a chance with Lyle Hewitson on board. He will try to make every post a winning one, so the other jockeys cannot afford to let him get away.

Upset material, which would make the exotics pay well, includes Tin Soldier, I Will Be and Shine Like A Star. Watch the betting on these “outsiders”.

The eight-race card gets underway at 13:05 with a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1300m.

Goddess Aurelia, from the Sharon Kotzen yard, could get punters off to a winning start.
