Madibaz 1 strive for league title

- Alvin Reeves Reevesa@Tisoblackstar.Co.Za

MECER Madibaz 1 will regain the NMB Premier League cricket title if they beat Mechatronic Uitenhage in their penultimate game on Sunday.

The students still have to play a catch-up fixture against United Brothers next Saturday, but a victory in Uitenhage this weekend will see them wrest back the crown they surrendered to Jendamark United last season.

Madibaz 1 are out in front by 11 points from Uitenhage, in second, and even a rained-out fixture would secure them the honours.

While the Madibaz and United Brothers have an extended season, the other clubs will be jostling for final positions this weekend.

Last year’s champions, United, have not managed to match their overall performance from last season and look likely to finish either sixth or seventh.

They have a double-header against SuperSpar Despatch tomorrow and BLG Gelvandale on Sunday.

This weekend’s fixtures (home teams first, 10am start): Tomorrow: Gelvandale v Mecer Madibaz 2, Despatch v United; Union v Motherwell, United Brothers v Uitenhage Sunday: United v Gelvandale, Motherwell v United Brothers, Uitenhage v Madibaz 1, Old Grey v Madibaz 2. ý The latest log, subject to ratification by the logkeeper, is: 1 Madibaz 1 101 (20), 2 Uitenhage 90 (20), 3 United Brothers 80 (19), 4 PECC 79 (21), 5 Old Grey 76 (21), 6 United 64 (20), 7 BLG Gelvandale 63 (20), 8 SuperSpar Despatch 50 (21), 9 SA Home Loans Union 49 (21), 10 Madibaz 2 40 (19), 11 Motherwell 19 (20), 12 Schauderville 17 (22).
