United take confidence boost into Hotspurs clash

- Amir Chetty

PARK United will be looking to carry the form that saw them lift the SPAR Nafa Easter Soccer Festival when they take on Hotspurs in the northern areas premier soccer league this weekend.

United finally achieved glory at the prestigious tournament on Monday, having fallen at the final hurdle on two previous occasions, and head coach Angelo Vos said the joy of winning the tournament would be put away as they looked to claw their way up the table.

“This win gives us some major confidence going into the weekend’s match [against Hotspurs], but we need to remain focused on the task at hand,” he said.

United are only one place (two points) above Hotspurs on the log. Spurs, however, have a game in hand.

Vos said progression was the key to their recent successes and his team would need to put the tournament win behind them and refocus their attention on the league. “We did not start the season off well, but we never panicked.

“We just kept playing simple football and you see the results of that today,” he said earlier this week.

The United-Hotspurs clash will be one of a handful of games to take place on Sunday.

Saints will kick off the fixtures with a clash against Wolves at home, as they look to find their way back into the top half of the table.

Glenville will have another chance to move off the foot of the table when they tackle Celtic, while beaten Easter tournament finalists Bloom Callies will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Ramblers.

All matches will start at 3.30pm unless otherwise stated.

The fixtures are: Tomorrow: Saints v Wolves (Saints) Sunday: Stardrift v Fairview Rovers (Marock Road), Rangers v Shamrocks (Gelvan 1), West Lake v Helenvale (Windvogel), Hotspurs v Park United (Adcock D), Ramblers v Bloom Callies (Bay City 1), Blackpool v Fairdene (Gelvan 2), Glenville v Celtic (Glenville)
