Home is where the Hearts are

- Mogan Segadavan

HEARTS are hoping to use home-ground advantage at the Valley to bag maximum points in the SAB League soccer competition this weekend.

After starting the year at the top, several poor results have seen them slump to ninth. They have now risen to sixth, 13 points behind log-leaders NMU Madibaz.

Hearts host Amarhamba United tonight and Golden Aces on Sunday.

Madibaz will be protecting their six-point lead at the top of the log when they host FC Winners at the south campus this evening. They play Major Chiefs tomorrow.

Fairview Rovers, who are within striking distance of the frontrunners, play Young Ideas at the NU9 Stadium tomorrow.

By their own standards, the northern areas outfit are having a disappointing season. Last week they lost to Hearts and drew with Young Ideas.

They are eight points off the pace and cannot afford another poor performance with just six matches remaining.

PE Sundowns, who are still in the running, play Despatch Pioneers tomorrow.

The fixtures are:

Tonight: Hearts v Amarhamba United (Lawson Brown), NMU Madibaz v FC Winners (south campus). Tomorrow: Camper United v Mabayibone Strikers (NU9 Stadium), Motherwell Academy v FC Winners (NU2 Stadium), Amarhamba United v Major Chiefs (Mqhayi Primary School), Major Chiefs v NMU Madibaz (tbc), Despatch Pioneers v PE Sundowns (Khayamnandi), Roaring Tigers v Highland Spurs (Chevrolet Stadium), Young Ideas v Fairview Rovers (NU9). Sunday: Hearts v Golden Aces (Lawson Brown), Ikamva Movers v Camper United (Chevrolet Stadium), Roaring Tigers v FC Winners (Chevrolet Stadium), Mabayibone Strikers v Major Chiefs (Walmer Community), Morning Stars v Highland Spurs (Zwide Stadium), Young Ideas v Despatch Pioneers (NU9 Stadium).

THE Safa-NMB Women’s League expects a full programme on Sunday after three teams failed to honour opening fixtures last week.

Dower, who thrashed Shatterprufe 3-0, will expect another easy match when they host Warriors at Dower College.

The match of the weekend should be the clash between PE United and Zwide All Stars.

The fixtures are: Tomorrow: Stars v Kuyga Ladies (NU9), African Chiefs v Vuku Wanderers (Jubilee Stadium), Zwide All Stars v PE United (Zwide Stadium), NMU Madibaz v Kubs (south campus), Shatterprufe v Park United (Finnis Street), Walmer Ladies v Rainbow Stars (Walmer Community), Young Aces v Volcano (KwaDwesi), Warriors v Dower (Dower College).
