Ace Ncobo’s a clown – Mumble

-

THE bitter war of words between the South African Football Association and Andile “Ace” Ncobo has escalated after Safa chief executive Dennis Mumble labelled the former Premier Soccer League general manager and Fifa referee a clown.

Ncobo accused Safa officials this week of running the organisation illegally.

He made many accusations, including that that Safa did not have an auditor, it was struggling to keep sponsors and that it was trying to legalise violations of its electoral codes, which might lead to a ban by Fifa. Mumble laughed off Ncobo’s claims.

“Why are you guys giving this guy so much airtime?” he said.

“He is a clown and cannot be taken seriously.

“He has made countless allegations against Safa over the past few months, but he is yet to prove anything.”

Ncobo‚ who is adamant that incumbent Danny Jordaan will not stand for the Safa presidency‚ said the organisation was in breach of the Companies Act.

He also said he and his group had written to the minister of sport and recreation asking for a forensic investigation of Safa’s financial affairs.

“No registered entity is supposed to spend a single day without an auditing firm‚” he said.

KPMG terminated its contract with Safa‚ the Legacy Trust and the Development Agency on March 3.

“Those entities are operating illegally and nobody talks about it.

“We have also written to Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza who was appointed by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants to investigate the conduct of KPMG.

“The electoral code that Safa is using is a standard code that is used by about 211 Fifa members and their decision to try to legalise the violations will put us on a collision course with Fifa and we could be suspended from international football. If you look at the value of sponsorships Safa is attracting and you compare that with the number and value of sponsors that the PSL is attracting‚ it is a skewed arrangement.

“The PSL averages about 1 200 participants against an organisation that has over three million participants and yet Safa struggles to reach even 10% of the sponsorship value of their special member.”

Ncobo said he would attend the Safa general assembly on April 28 and argue against the adoption of the amendments of electoral codes.

He would also table a motion that all decisions be taken via secret ballot because some members feared intimidation. – TimesLIVE
