Pearson too strong for Oudtshoorn

PEARSON High had a successful day on the rugby field against Oudtshoorn High on Saturday, with all their teams winning comfortabl­y.

The first team entertaine­d with exciting running rugby from the backs, which resulted in a brace of tries for right winger Ruben Schumacher.

After scoring in the third minute through No 8 Talefo Moleko, Pearson maintained the pressure to build up a 26-point lead.

Oudtshoorn replied with two tries to narrow the score to 26-12. Pearson then scored a late try to make the final score 33-12.

HOCKEY

THE Pearson girls’ first team were relentless in their clash, recording a decisive 8-0 win. The home side dominated the game and Oudtshoorn were unable to produce a single circle entry.

Tori White showed her speed to net four goals, with others coming from Jess Coltman (2), Chelsea Baumgarten and Megan Snyman, who earned her 100th cap for the team.

The boys’ clash was much more evenly contested, with Oudtshoorn taking an early lead.

Pearson equalised, but Oudtshoorn soon hit back with two breakaway goals. Although the home side scored again, they trailed 3-2 at the break.

With 10 minutes left, Josh Honey made it 3-3, followed by another from Tristan Dougans.

A penalty stroke was awarded to Pearson, with captain Julian Dalton converting to make it 5-3.
