String of violent crimes plague beachfront area

OTHER violent incidents in the beachfront area recently:

ý October 17 2017: A 27-year-old man is killed and a 16-year-old girl seriously wounded in a shootout at the McDonalds in Humewood.

Jeremy Stokes, 30, and Cheslyn Jordaan, 23, both of Bethelsdorp, were charged with the murder and attempted murder.

ý November 7: The bodies of Andre Saaiman, 65, and his wife Lidia, 69, are found in a locked room in their Scott Street house in Summerstrand.

Andre was beaten to death with an axe and Lidia was strangled. No arrests have been made. ý December 17: Curtleigh Alexander, 16, dies after being stabbed twice in the Hobie Beach parking lot.

Faizel Davids, 20, Fergil Fillis, 19, and Shuaib Slabbert, 18, and three minors are arrested for the crime.

ý January 9 2018: A British couple, aged 86 and 74, are mugged in Marine Drive, Summerstrand. A bystander, Rest Pemhiwa, is shot while pursuing the muggers.

Ashwin Bennett, 19, of Holland Park, has been arrested.

ý January 31: Tourism student Lwandile Madikizela, 20, from East London, is stabbed several times in his flat in Gomery Place and is taken to hospital for treatment.

ý March 12: Jayde Frost, 21, is stabbed at the Hobie Beach car park at 5pm.

ý April 25: A Hobie Beach car guard, known only as “Boere”, is stabbed to death on the beachfront last month while sleeping. Another car guard, Sivuyile Batyi, 36, has appeared in court for the murder.
