‘Moral’ support for guilty

- R Hill, Greenacres, Port Elizabeth

YOUR front page of The Herald (May 10) on Andile Lungisa’s sentence was headlined “Jailed”, which is an emphatic statement to say the least.

Later on in the piece, we read that Mr [Khusta] Jack gives the guilty party a character reference in court.

Mr Jack, over the last few years, has been writing columns in your paper, questioning the morals and workings of the ANC, and gave the impression that his support was with the opposition parties, and possibly COPE or UDM, if they could get their act together, and get a policy formulated that would get support.

Mr Lungisa is not a citizen who sets an example for others to follow.

Let us not forget, notwithstanding the glass jug episode, he has been involved with a high-speed chase in his BMW, not stopping after an accident, and many more incidents reported in the newspapers.

Now we must look at Mr Jack, who stands up and says the criminal is a respectful person who did not intend to hurt anyone with a jug of water?

I am sure Mr Kayser was not asking for a glass of water because he was thirsty!

The new generation of the ANC must realise that the wanton destruction of property is not acceptable in a developed society, and they must respect other people’s property.

Maybe, in jail, Mr Lungisa will have time to reflect and change his ways.
