LEAVE GREY HIGH CADETS ALONE

KAREN Pienaar’s letter, “Rid schools of old British traditions”, smacks of bigotry and propaganda associated with neo-Nazi Afrikaner nationalism of HF Verwoerd’s apartheid South Africa. The operative word of Afrikaner nationalism was “anti” – anti-Jew, anti-black, anti-Catholic etc. Cultures are shared and should never be compared. The British were the forerunners in our glorious motherland of education, medicine, commerce, media and mining. Slavery was abolished by the British Parliament in 1836.

DR GALLOWAY

LEAVE Grey cadets alone. If parents don’t like the school’s traditions, they don’t have to send their children there. And no boys are forced to march.

JUNE

KAREN Pienaar, what absolute drivel. Get over yourself! Take a look at the picture that you took such a dislike to. Had you been present at the parade, you would have noticed the pride and camaraderie between all the cadets, regardless of colour. What an honour each one of them must have felt being part of this long-standing, disciplined tradition. It is people like you who continue to spread hatred and racism among our fellow men instead of encouraging our youth to build a better South Africa for all.

TRADITIONALIST

MANY years ago, all schools had cadet bands and there was a time at old Boet Erasmus stadium that all bands played as they came into the stadium.

PENSIONER

KAREN, get a life do some good. I am an Old Collegiate aged 90 years and had family at Grey. I am too old now to attend the ceremony and I miss it.

SHEILA

KAREN Pienaar, re old British traditions. You forgot to mention rugby and soccer.

NO TO SHARK CAGE DIVING

ABSOLUTELY agree with Galloway and Turner – NO to shark cage diving in the Bay! Disappointed by this.
