Daniel Pienaar go on the rampage

-

DANIEL Pienaar had too much firepower for Otto du Plessis as they registered an easy 52-6 victory in their schools rugby clash in Uitenhage on Wednesday.

The home side managed to keep the scoreboard ticking with a total of eight tries, four in each half, despite a myriad of penalties awarded during the match.

Daniel Pienaar eighth man Dean Kock ran strongly from behind the scrums and scored the first try after just two minutes of play.

He added another try to his tally later in the first half.

Quicksilver scrumhalf Sachin Toring kept the defence busy with his knack for spotting a gap and also scored two tries.

After strong starts to both the first and the second half, Daniel Pienaar conceded a number of penalties midway in each half, which gave the visitors the chance to probe for territory and launch a few attacks.

Ultimately, though, Otto du Plessis had too little possession to truly test the Daniel Pienaar defence.

Visiting scrumhalf Wian Strydom was the pick of his team on the day and succeeded with two penalties from three attempts to score his side’s only points.

The other tries were scored by hooker Corne Nicholls, fullback Brandon Boshoff, centre Liyema Gaba and lock Chaldon Kapp.

Otto du Plessis’ best moment of the game belonged to centre Jomaine Brewis. Daniel Pienaar’s Gaba had already crossed the tryline between the posts when Brewis managed to wrap his arms around the ball in the tackle.

In the momentum, Brewis’s long legs crossed the dead ball line, so no try was scored.

Besides his try, Boshoff kicked six conversions for a personal tally of 17 points.
