Children’s film fest to celebrate Madiba
THE Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund‚ in collaboration with the Children and Broadcasting Foundation for Africa‚ is to host an inaugural children’s film festival.
The festival‚ to be held at various venues in Johannesburg from June 16 to 18‚ will also mark the Nelson Mandela Centenary.
Festival co-founder Firdoze Bulbulia said: “We are delighted to be celebrating and commemorating Mandela’s legacy in his centenary year and to continue to use his work to inspire the next generation.
“We believe film is a unique medium that can open windows‚ shedding light on cultures and traditions.
“We have visitors [lined up for] the festival from Egypt‚ Iran‚ Palestine‚ Serbia‚ Pakistan‚ the US‚ Tunisia‚ Denmark‚ Germany and more, who will all share their cultural filmmaking practices with young people.
“The festival acts as a platform for empowering young South Africans to participate in the global dialogue on film and media.”
Bulbulia said the event was a unique opportunity for young people to gain insight into film practices.
Delegates will present films‚ performances‚ animation workshops and expert masterclasses in various fields.
