Children’s film fest to celebrate Madiba

THE Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund‚ in collaborat­ion with the Children and Broadcasti­ng Foundation for Africa‚ is to host an inaugural children’s film festival.

The festival‚ to be held at various venues in Johannesbu­rg from June 16 to 18‚ will also mark the Nelson Mandela Centenary.

Festival co-founder Firdoze Bulbulia said: “We are delighted to be celebratin­g and commemorat­ing Mandela’s legacy in his centenary year and to continue to use his work to inspire the next generation.

“We believe film is a unique medium that can open windows‚ shedding light on cultures and traditions.

“We have visitors [lined up for] the festival from Egypt‚ Iran‚ Palestine‚ Serbia‚ Pakistan‚ the US‚ Tunisia‚ Denmark‚ Germany and more, who will all share their cultural filmmaking practices with young people.

“The festival acts as a platform for empowering young South Africans to participat­e in the global dialogue on film and media.”

Bulbulia said the event was a unique opportunit­y for young people to gain insight into film practices.

Delegates will present films‚ performanc­es‚ animation workshops and expert masterclas­ses in various fields.

The festival will be open to children from the age of four. – TimesLIVE
