Graeme defends Bailey Cup in weekend of victories

-

GRAEME College’s tennis stars lived up to their reputation by winning the Bailey Cup in Grahamstown for the fourth year in a row.

The tournament caters for the top two players in age-groups from U10 to U18, with Graeme, St Andrew’s, Kingswood and Port Alfred all taking part.

On the rugby field, the junior teams had some fine results in good contests against Fort Beaufort and St Mary’s.

The hockey boys struggled against Hudson Park, with the U15s losing 2-0, the second team going down 1-0 and the firsts being beaten 3-1.

The rugby players shared the spoils but there were some notable performances.

The Hudson U14A side were in a confident mood after beating Queen’s 55-12 the week before, but Graeme produced the perfect game to win 38-8.

The first team were also resolute in their defence, winning a massive encounter 17-5.

After defending for a period of time, Graeme managed to gain some momentum in the first half, sending wing Liam Agnew over in the corner for a 5-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Graeme started to gain the ascendency.

The highlight of the match was the interplay between fullback Sixolile Lamani and Agnew which led to their second try.

Wing Yanga Bangisa added a third try for Graeme to lead 17-0 before Hudson Park scored in the last few minutes of the game.
