Selborne outclass St Andrew’s

-

AFTER leading 2-0 in the first half, St Andrew’s were unable to capitalise on the situation, losing 3-2 to Selborne in their schoolboys’ hockey clash in Grahamstown on Friday.

The home team’s usual clinical passing game was well below par.

The second half saw St Andrew’s give away far too much possession to an excellent Selborne midfield.

This put their defence under increasing pressure and although Dan Erasmus, making his first-team debut, pulled off some excellent saves, Selborne took control to score three goals for the win.

The U14Bs lost 3-1 to Selborne, having had the upper hand in the early stages of the match. However, Selborne slowly established their dominance.

The U14As trailed 3-0 against a stronger, more physical Selborne team.

But inspirational play from Anthony Baker and Nick Lane saw them finish strongly, eventually going down narrowly 3-2.

The U16Ds fought back to hold their opponents after conceding five goals in the first half. Although losing 5-0, they matched Selborne after the break.

The U16Cs had a goalless draw, with Tom Harper and Jeffrey Carle excellent in defence.

The U16Bs struggled against a well organised Selborne team, going down 3-0.

The U16As drew 0-0 in a tightly contested match.
