7-4 goal fest as home side squander lead

THERE was a goal fest in the Pefa SCORE Premier League match between Callies and Rising Stars in Londt Park on Friday evening.

The home side had run up a 6-1 lead by half time and did not bargain on Stars staging a fight-back to raise the score to 7-4.

Kurt Peterson was Callies’ leading goalscorer with a hat-trick. Bongani Zono (2), Marvin Mbaco and Julian Cooper were the other goalscorer­s.

Also on Friday evening, defending champions Chippa United edged out Central Acemates 3-2.

Forresters retained their place at the top of the log with a 3-1 win over Hearts.

Sbusiso Mancam netted a brace for the log leaders. Anele Gadlela scored the third.

In a minor upset, Blue Ribbon St George’s beat second-placed NMU Madibaz 1-0.

After a goalless first half, Thando Mancam netted the winner midway in the second.

PE Defence beat gallant tailenders NMB Municipali­ty by two goals to one.

PE Homerovers picked up soft points after Mahle Old Grey arrived without players’ cards. Results: Chippa United 3 Central Acemates 2, Callies 7 Rising Stars 4, Forresters 3 Hearts 1, PE Defence 2 NMB Municipali­ty 1, Blue Ribbon St Georges 1 NMU Madibaz 0, PE Homerovers w/o Mahle Old Grey. CALLIES, who returned to the top of the Pelfa Old Buck Gin League last week with a hard-earned 1-0 win over Mahle Old Grey, should consolidat­e their position tomorrow evening when they host struggling PE City at Londt Park.

Old Grey, who dropped to second on goal difference, will expect to pick up maximum points against Priory at the south campus.

Defending champions Kuyga Masters could end Fairview Rovers’ four-match winning streak when they clash at the St Albans rugby field.

Masters tied with Callies and Old Grey after beating St Albans 3-1 last week.
