1940: SA Air Force planes attack Lavella aerodrome in Italian East Africa in World War 2. 1964: At the conclusion of the Rivonia trial in the Pretoria Supreme Court, Nelson Mandela, Dennis Goldberg, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, James Kantor, Andrew Mlangeni, Elias Motsoaledi and Raymond Mhlaba are sentenced to life imprisonment for sabotage. 2005: Rain Queen Makobo Modjadji VI, pictured, dies in a Polokwane, Limpopo hospital.
