Kingwood shrug off Grens

-

KINGSWOOD shrugged off an early onslaught by Grens High to defeat their East London rivals 66-5 in their rugby clash in Grahamstown on Saturday.

The two schools have had mixed results this season and the scene at City Lords was set for a keen encounter.

Grens started well and dominated the opening phases to surge deep into the Kingswood half. Strong set pieces and hard running by the Grens backs allowed them to get over for the first try, which was unconverted.

The early points by Grens woke the Kingswood boys up and they started to control possession and to play some rugby in the opposition half.

Strong ball-carrying and slick handling allowed Kingswood to take the lead with three first-half tries.

At 21-5, Grens were still in the game, but Kingswood stepped up the tempo in the second half to score some wonderful team tries.

Their tries came from Jared Manus (3), Hilton Krige (2), Richie Rautenbach, Jack Mills, Scott Sretton, Camagu Kahla, Athi Galada.

Jared Manus kicked eight conversions.
