Juan Two Three could be the right number

- Punters’ Pal

PUNTERS will be careful today to go in with boots and all with a banker from the Alan Greeff stable at the Fairview polytrack meeting.

Last Friday, the filly Carlita was the strong favourite on the day but let the punters down with a poor run.

This time it is another Greeff-trained favourite that stands out as the banker. Although punters will probably think twice, it is hard to look past the sprinter Juan Two Three as the best bet on today’s card.

He has to carry 62kg over the 1 200m in a Pinnacle Stakes, but Juan Two Three is actually well weighted to win this one.

The satellite yard of Cape Town trainer Justin Snaith also gives punters a banker option in the first leg of the Pick Six.

It is an extremely moderate bunch that goes to battle and the filly Young Hopeful looks ready to win for the first time in her eighth attempt.

Racing on the polytrack is always competitive and tricky for the punters. As usual, the track will be lightning fast to add to the excitement.

There is also action on the poly on Monday with another meeting for the Port Elizabeth fans. It is a quiet racing weekend countrywide, though, but punters will not complain too much about that with some bigger meetings around the corner.

Next Friday sees the running of the longest race in the country when the wonderful PE Gold Cup will be up for grabs.

It will be a small field that will tackle the murderous distance of 3 600m but this race has always been a favourite of the Fairview crowd.

The Fairview Breeders Stakes, Champion Juvenile Cup, Paddock Stakes and Friendly City Stakes are all on the Fairview menu before the season comes to a close at the end of next month.

The build-up to this year’s Vodacom Durban July is also in full swing and already some trainers are crying that the handicappers are making it too easy for African Night Sky, trained by Snaith, to win this R4.25-million race on July 7 at Greyville.
