THE Phalula twin sisters, Lebo and Lebogang, plan to turn up the heat at the third leg of the SPAR Grand Prix when they take on the SPAR Women’s 10km race at Kings Park Stadium in Durban, on Sunday.

Defending champion Kesa Molotsane has won the first two races of the Grand Pix so far. She will be out to collect a third consecutive win this weekend. However, the sisters plan to stop Molotshane in her tracks. The duo have had poor results at this year’s challenge series and with only three more events to go, the twins plan to turn things around in Durban. In the last race which took place in Port Elizabeth, Lebogang finished seventh, while Lebo took 12th position. Speaking after winning the Youth Run event at Kings Beach at the weekend, Lebo said the victory was a great motivation ahead of the SPAR Women’s 10km. “I did the Two Oceans and a couple of SPAR Ladies races but I didn’t do well because I was injured,” Lebo said. “I took a rest from running until I healed. By the time I got well I started training again and I won the MTN Run in Johannesburg. “That was the race that motivated me. It gives me hope that I can still do well in the few SPAR Ladies races that are left but I am impressed with my performance here in PE.” Meanwhile, sister Lebogang, who took second position in the same race on Saturday, said she was happy to run alongside Lebo, who was on maternity leave, again. “This year was not a good year for me in the SPAR Ladies, but since my sister’s return I am now trying to make a comeback. “You know, running with your twin sister is so nice and I don’t get tired when she’s next to me. I struggled last year not running with her because she was pregnant. I am so glad that she is back.” Asked if she was aiming to improve on her seventh place in the last SPAR race, Lebogang said: “Just wait and see. Kesa is in good shape this year and now she is dominating in the 10km but my sister and I want to stop that.”
