With the objective to provide a networking and learning platform for the local music community, “social entrepreneur” Masixole Ngesi returns with another instalment of The Come Up Connect.

The event includes social interaction, discussion panels and seminars aimed at educating musicians about different industries to help develop their careers.

“We’re inviting people with expertise in different fields because we’ve realised that when you’re an upcoming singer, music isn’t the only thing you need to know.

“For example, as an artist I need to know what’s required when I approach media for publicity and not get surprised when a newspaper asks for high-res images when all I have are selfies,” Ngesi said.

While Ngesi has some sponsors on board, he is still looking for additional support, as well as potential speakers with expertise in artist management, financial and legal advice, music production, photography, media and network operation.

The event is set to run over two days – September 28 and 29 – at Emakhaleni B&B in Ngona Street, KwaMagxaki.

“Another one of my objectives is to promote township business and talent.

“I speak to some potential investors about hosting events in the township and they bring up safety concerns but if the municipality can provide security for events in Summerstrand, why can’t the same be done for townships?” he said. ● For more information, e-mail masi.ngesi@gmail.com or call 074-923-6047.
