Two suspects were arrested only 20 minutes after they allegedly robbed a man of his car at his Francis Evatt Park home when they stopped to put in fuel during their escape.

The 27-year-old homeowner was accosted inside his Masson Road house by two men and a woman shortly before 3am on Wednesday.

They were apprehended shortly after the robbery when they stopped in Linton Grange to put in fuel.

A third suspect – a 25-yearold man – was arrested a view hours later at a residence on the St Albans Prison grounds where his father is a prison warder.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the man had woken up when he heard noises at his front door.

“The man opened the door and was confronted by three people. He recognised the woman and one of the men so he let them in,” she said.

“When they entered, one of the men pulled out a firearm. The homeowner was tied up with an electrical cord while the suspects loaded [his] television into his Opel Corsa Lite.”

He managed to break free and alert the police.

“Police arrived at the house and got details of the stolen vehicle. Within 20 minutes, the K9 Unit spotted the stolen Corsa at the Caltex garage in Linton Grange,” she said.

They arrested a 22-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man.

The woman allegedly had a loaded pistol with her which belongs to her grandfather.

Mount Road cluster commander Major-General Thembisile Patekile welcomed the arrests.

The suspects are due in court on Friday.
