Coalition politics nation’s one hope

-

The DA is in disarray at the very time SA needs a viable alternative to the rotten-to-thecore, totally incompetent ANC – an ANC which has, progressively and unrelentingly, pushed SA to the very edge of an economic black hole.

Given our situation, the only workable option for our country is a coalition of political forces, and an abiding strategy for economic and social stability – given this, South Africans have the work ethic and energy to make a success of our nation’s future.

We already have leadership of integrity among (some) existing political parties.

Together with corporates, trade unions and businesspeople, we have the professionals, technicians and entrepreneurs to create a bright future for our beloved land.

A key success factor could be defining a role for former DA leader Helen Zille, who breathed life to our existing coalition politics in terms of coalition negotiations.

The first thing the opposition political parties need to do is to resolve to retain their individual political identities and declare very firmly, in principle, to include a “coalition plank” to go in their 2019 election platforms.

This would be to the effect that should they together comprise a majority, they will systematically undo the allpervasive corruption and also make the changes needed to ensure no president or political party can ever arrogate to himself or itself the level of power Jacob Zuma and the ANC have done.

A binding declaration such as this will represent a beacon of hope for all South Africans who care for the future of this land.

It will be a much-awaited clarion call for the electorate, who will unhesitatingly use it to resoundingly reject the ANC.

To prepare for victory, “Coalition SA” will have its work cut out.

Inasmuch as the ANC has been devastatingly incompetent and corrupt to the core in government, it has shown a cunning genius for the dark arts of disinformation, character assassination, abuse of intelligence services, undermin- ing of law enforcement agencies and misleading the public.

All of the foregoing represents a huge threat to the success of the Coalition SA initiative – the ANC will stop at nothing to try to retain its grip on power. Forewarned is forearmed! Coalition SA will need an election strategy team of very smart people dedicated to the urgent task of closely looking at events of the past 20 years, specifically the ANC’s part in them, and how it behaved and reacted to them.

Looking at these events dispassionately and comprehensively will provide the election strategy team with the means to formulate a smart strategy, to think quickly on their feet and conduct a successful election campaign for Coalition SA. Anything short of this approach will end in failure.

Support for and contributions to Coalition SA in the run-up to next year’s elections should be as inclusive and broad-based as possible.

Bodies and corporate groups of people should be able to come forward and offer to help wherever they can be used. Given the forces at play this is, without question, a spiritual battle for the many millions of patriotic South Africans.

The Coalition SA initiative will seriously represent a defining moment for a new South African national spirit. Sandy Johnston Port Elizabeth
