Bremner has right spirit

-

PACIFIC Spirit can compensate his supporters for his failure last time when he contests a MR 86 Handicap in Race 6 over 1 300m at the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.

The Yvette Bremnertrained son of Sail From Seattle will have apprentice Lyle Hewitson back in the saddle following his 2,55-length defeat by Soviet Cosmonaut on June 22.

Pacific Spirit was backed from 7-1 down to 5-1, but over-raced and was found to be coughing afterwards.

Pacific Spirit, a three-time winner from 20 starts, this time jumps from pole position and Hewitson will be keen to bring the four-yearold gelding home for owners Greg Bortz, Braam van Huyssteen, MC Wright and FH McGrath.

A bright future was predicted for this horse two years ago when he lost his debut race by only 0,75 lengths to Sergeant Hardy at Kenilworth. After this terrific start he won three races in a row, beating Great Waves and Zevenastic twice.

Pacific Spirit has now matured and looks set for a fourth career win.

Breakfast Club, who will have Greg Cheyne up for the Alan Greeff yard, is always a big runner and should give Pacific Spirit a run for his money. He finished 1,80 lengths behind Soviet Cosmonaut over 1 400m last time and looks set for further improvement.

Dawnbreaker and Valentinik also have the ability to win a race of this nature on their day. Dawnbreaker, who will have Aldo Domeyer up for the Gavin Smith stable, led last time against the above-average Juan Two Three before dropping back to go down by 1,75 lengths over 1 200m. Domeyer could make a difference this time.

Valentinik, from the Bremner yard, cannot be ignored. He is a decent sort and finished only 1,50 lengths behind Kiftsgate last time and only a length behind African Victory three runs back. A third career win is not far off.

The first of the eight-race card is off at 12h40 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate for two-year-old fillies over 1 200m.
