Following a postponement earlier in the year, the Mpumakoloni International Gospel Music Awards (Mkigma) ceremony will now take place in August at the Feather Market Centre.

The awards were initially meant to take place in April but were postponed due to financial issues.

Eastern Cape-born independent gospel artist Odwa Skosana, founder of the Mkigma’s, said although the journey towards establishing the inaugural awards had not been easy, the organisers were humbled by the support received from the community.

“We are ecstatic to see our planning finally taking shape.

“We have been planning these awards from 2016.

“The Mkigma’s are the first awards of their kind in the Eastern Cape.

“They are meant to be a platform to recognise and motivate not only Eastern Cape talent but gospel musicians in and around Southern Africa.

“As the project grows, we are hoping to expand the number of categories,” Odwa said.

The awards have nine categories, four of which will require a public vote.

Mkigma marketing officer Thembinkosi Skosana said the community’s support would be greatly appreciated.

“Going forward, we would like to see the Mkigma’s grow bigger,” Skosana said.

On the night, fans can expect entertainment by legendary gospel musicians Derrick Ndzimande, Zodwa Twecu, Monwabisi Ndizimela and other artists.

Tickets are available at Computicket at R250 each and R500 for four tickets bought in bulk.

The ceremony will be held at the Feather Market Centre on Saturday August 4 at 5pm.
