Fresh from the World Choir Games in Tshwane last week, the Iuventus Gaude (Youth, Rejoice) Children’s Choir will perform at a concert by the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir at the St Mary’s Cathedral in Central on Tuesday.

The choir, hailing from Jablonec in the Czech Republic, will perform alongside Port Elizabeth’s Cantatori Male Choir as part of their nationwide tour. The Iuventus Gaude Children’s Choir comprises four preparatory choirs, namely: Pueri Gaudete of children aged six years, Liberi Gaudete of children aged between seven and eight, Boys Choir of children aged between seven and 12, and Amici Gaudete of children aged between nine and 11.

The main choir is made up of more than 190 boys and girls aged between 11 and 18.

It was founded in 2015 at the Primary School of Art in Jablonec nad Nisou and is conducted by Tomás Pospísil.

The broad repertoire of the choir presents works from the Baroque era as well as contemporary music, folk songs, swing, spirituals, songs from musicals and more.

The 13-member Cantatori Male Choir sings both sacred and secular songs in various languages. The choir is conducted by Ansie Kotze and has appeared as special guests at the annual sell-out Feather Market Organ Society Christmas Concert.

They also regularly perform during church services and form part of many of the larger retirement villages’ entertainment programmes. The concert will start at 7pm and tickets at R60 for adults and R40 for pensioners, students and pupils will be available at the door.
