Three EP boys excel against Australia

-

Three Eastern Province schoolboy hockey players played in the recent three-match Test series against Australia in Pietermaritzburg over the holidays.

Grey High’s Cody Posthumus and Luke Wynford and Peter Jarvis of St Andrew’s College were in the team.

The series was a close affair. The first two Tests ended in draws, but the Aussies clinched the final match 6-3.

The three EP boys all excelled, Posthumus being the leading goal-scorer of the series, including a hat-trick in the final game.

Jarvis continued his excellent form by taking the most field goals in the series.

These are exciting times for these three young players – they are now in Algeria to play in the Hockey Fives at the African Youth Qualifier Games.

Eight African countries are taking part, with the first match on Thursday.

South Africa are drawn in the same pool as Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Algeria.

The winning team will qualify for the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in October.

Ricky King (Grey) and Kamva Dyakala (Woodridge) were selected for the SA U17 squad.

Four Grey boys, Nicolas Keevy, Nicolas Mitchell, Cade Cambier and Jade Smith, were selected for the SA u16 squad.

Three Woodridge boys were also chosen: Marc du Toit, Jordan Bendamen and Cody Showman.
