Humewood pro-am does it for the kids

- Amir Chetty

Humewood Golf Club are gearing up to welcome amateurs and professionals alike for the SG Mobility Humewood Charity Pro-Am next month.

The two-day tournament will swing into action at Humewood – billed as the only true links course on the African continent – on Sunday August 5 with a two-tee start at 11am, before moving on to Wedgewood Golf Club the next day.

The shotgun start will get under way at 8am.

Humewood manager Brendon Timm said the event would see PGA professionals, some of whom still play and coach on the Sunshine Tour, and amateurs participating.

The competition will see one professional teaming up with three amateur players for the 36-hole event.

“I am very excited about this event because it will bring the best players from all over the country to play at the only true links course in Africa.

“We so excited about the future of this club and for having such amazing sponsors and a great charity on board for the day,” Timm said.

The beneficiary this year is the Northwood Children’s Hospice.

Working in communities in and around Port Elizabeth since its inception in 2010, the organisation has grown dramatically over the years, with the completion of the Northwood Edu-Care centre in Mount Croix.

“Our dream is to build a 24bed hospice which will care for children, regardless of their backgrounds.

“Our aim is to give them the best care,” Northwood Children’s Hospice board member Ruth Nesbit said.

“We are absolutely thrilled about this initiative and a heartfelt thank you to the Humewood Golf Club and Super Group for this wonderful initiative.”

Lynn Petersen, from Super Group, said it was a huge honour to be involved with the club, having sponsored past charity events.

“It is very special to get involved with this event in particular as it is quite close to our hearts,” she said.
