Hotspurs will be hoping the recent spate of positive results bodes well for their season after advancing to the next round of the Mala Moodley knockout competition on Sunday.

The Schauder side romped past Booysen Pride, netting five goals to set up their quarterfinal berth.

Head coach Andrew Bosch was happy they advanced but at the same time bemoaned his team’s lack of killer instinct.

“I feel we should have scored more goals. We need to start being more clinical in front of goal,” Bosch said.

A day earlier, Spurs went up against Glenville and, despite going a goal down, eventually took home all three points with a 2-1 win.

“They really pulled out all the stops and that now helps us as we move three points clear at the top,” Bosch said.

Elsewhere, Park United also advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the Mala Moodley thanks to a 1-0 win over Blackpool, having lost 1-0 to the same team in the league 24 hours earlier. Wolves moved into second place with a 2-1 win against Rangers on Saturday.

With no cup commitments to focus on, Wolves will be looking to make a late charge for the top spot as the season begins to wind down.

Fairview Rovers were dumped out of the Mala Moodley after a 2-1 loss to Bloom Callies on Sunday.

In their league match the previous day, Rovers played to a 1-1 stalemate against Celtic.

West Lake were also dumped out of the knockout competition at the hands of Sibanye.

In their league match on Saturday, fans were treated to a goal fest against Saints as the match ended 4-3.
