Sophakama on a roll but have way to go on the log

Zwide side Sophakama Ladies have continued with their good run in the Sasol Women’s League after clinching their third consecutiv­e victory at the weekend.

The Port Elizabeth side beat Executive Ladies 1-0 at the Zwide Stadium on Saturday.

The win comes after a 5-0 success against Highbury in a Bay derby.

Despite the constant success, Sophakama remain seventh on the log. They have 29 points from 20 matches.

The win increased City’s points to 54 from 19 matches.

Runner-ups Thunderbir­ds Ladies are only trailing by two points and have a game in hand.

The East London side beat Eluhewnini Ladies 3-0 at the weekend as they look to close the gap between them and City. Both sides have set their sights on the league title this season.

Golden Stars suffered another defeat after losing 2-1 to Red Roses Ladies.

The loss was Stars’ second in a row. The last time the team tasted victory was against Bashee Eagles.

Stars are 12th on the log with 17 points from their 18 matches.
