Elegant African getaway

-

Fort D’Acre is situated a mere 25km from the coastal town of Port Alfred, on the Fish River Mouth. We offer luxurious accommodation with a backdrop of ocean and bush. Our thatched, sea-facing lodge has four suites and is elegantly decorated in soft colours depicting the natural surroundings, with spacious en-suite bathrooms. The lodge offers a relaxing patio area where one is able to take in the sweeping views of the bush and ocean, with the added bonus of game grazing close by. Guests can take advantage of sunny days by relaxing next to the swimming pool and whale watching at the beach lapa while soaking up the sun. Enjoy luxury game drives into the reserve with a stop along the way to enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate with homemade rusks in the morning, or a glass of wine with traditional South African snacks in the evening. Probably the biggest and most exciting development to happen this year is the renovation of our shed, which will be our new wedding/events venue. We are thrilled by the prospect of being able to share our special place with even more people. It overlooks a dam abundant in birdlife, and animals frequent it regularly to quench their thirst. We will be able to accommodate up to 200 people with this extension. As if this wasn’t enough, we are also renovating our much-loved beach lapa, which many past guests have enjoyed. We have increased the deck size and added an enclosed sitting area with picture windows and sliding doors that look out towards the ocean. A new built-in braai area has been added, because what is a beach day without a good old traditional South African braai? It will be completed soon to welcome our summer guests. Already our days are getting longer and warmer; and the swallows will soon be diving through the air, catching their meals on the wing. A keen birder? We recently had local bird expert Anne Williams compile a winter bird survey for us. She got a fantastic count of 67 species! A summer one will be conducted as well, which should yield us an even bigger list. In the meantime, we can enjoy the fields of yellow and orange Pin Cushions (Leucospermum), the sightings of breeching whales from the lodge patio, and warm, cosy evenings in the lounge sitting in front of a roaring fire while sipping a glass of sherry. Getting to Fort D’Acre couldn’t be easier, with Port Elizabeth Airport only 180km from us and East London a mere 100km. The popular, quaint historical village of Bathurst is on our doorstep. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway with a loved one or group of friends, Fort D’Acre Reserve is ideal. For more information, contact us on 082-0923035.
