It’s poly time at Fairview

- Punters’ Pal

Get ready to spend the next two months on the Poly track.

It is poly time at Fairview while the grass track is getting the annual treatment for the big Algoa Cup meeting at the end of October.

With regular rain at Fairview, it is a good thing the action is on the poly surface as conditions would have been challenging on the turf.

There are eight races today and we will be back on Monday with another poly meeting.

There is no feature race today but there are some extremely interesting battles.

The one that I am looking forward to is the Novice Plate (race 4) for fillies and mares.

Two smart fillies, Klever Kathy and Shepard’s Delight, should fight it out for first place.

Hartleythree (race 2) and Hidden Thought (race 6) will be popular bankers.

We are in the second month of the season and the battle for the titles will now pick up.

Champion trainer Alan Greeff has already made a good start and his stable is leading the pack yet again.

Gavin Smith, Tara Laing and Sharon Kotzen could also have a great season.

Last Saturday’s awards evening was a huge success.

It was great to see the stars of East Cape Racing rewarded for the brilliant efforts of last season.

The now retired mare Star Burst Galaxy, trained by Laing, deservedly won the award for horse of the year.

It is the third time in the last four years that the Laing stable trained the horse of the year, with Sir Duke in 2015 and Crown Of Gold in 2016.

A highlight at the evening was the screening of the films done by NMU media students showing the happenings behind the scenes at Fairview.
