Maimane shows poor leadership

- Gordon Upton Port Elizabeth

It is my humble opinion that the leadership demonstrated by Mmusi Maimane has been shocking in its lack of leadership.

The rot started in Cape Town with Helen Zille and Patricia de Lille.

Nothing was done to engage with all role players, and to unite in an agreement to take the DA forward in a positive manner in the Western Cape and Cape Town.

We now have a splintered and fractured, and very hurt DA in the Western Cape.

It is my humble opinion that Athol Trollip has been left out to dry by Maimane.

The DA leader should have had high-level discussions with the leaders of the coalition parties, both nationally and locally. Maimane should have been more visible in Nelson Mandela Bay, engaging with councillors and the people to ensure unity within the party.

It was ultimately left to the Patriotic Alliance‚ which first said it would support the bid to remove Trollip and install a new coalition government‚ backing out at the last minute due to its ongoing impasse with the EFF.

This had nothing to do with any leadership moves from Maimane.

Following this, a DA councillor “turns” and gives the ANC coalition Trollip's head on a plate.

Where was Maimane while all this was happening?

In fact, where the heck is he now?

Why did he not ensure that

all DA councillors had Trollip’s back?

Why did he not engage with all DA councillors?

Is Maimane himself a “renta-black”?

This in itself seems ludicrous considering he is the party leader.

Maimane has cost the DA dearly in Cape Town and in Port Elizabeth by no action, no leadership and leaving Trollip to fend for himself.
