Pray for righteousness in SA

- Vernon Niland Port Elizabeth

Our nation is falling apart, not at the seams, we are past that stage – the cracks go through our very heart. Crime stats in SA shock the core of my foundation, it feels like I am bleeding out, literally.

I was taught from an early age that dignity comes from hard work, discipline and integrity.

I still believe this is true. I just wish the ones destroying our country would appreciate the same values.

Our country is in excruciating pain.

It is a paradigm shift from the times when law-obeying citizens used to embrace the protection of the governing laws, and more so, the execution of scripted laws against the perpetrators.

My heart is in turmoil, millions of others’ hearts are too.

Sadly we are only the victims waiting like sitting ducks to be picked off by the next group of burglars, murderers, rapists, human traffickers and all of their accomplices.

The culprits now enjoy the liberty to rampantly tear apart the moral fabric of our nation, only because it appears they outwit and outmanoeuvre the powers that rule.

I want to shift all the blame to lenient justice systems, inadequate strategies from police, lack of law enforcement officials due to non-recruitment, corruption in the law enforcement, tolerance in the judgment courts and inefficient punishment of criminals. I know of murderers who are enjoying the same freedom as I do and have never been brought to book for their deeds, the law simply letting them go!

Be that as it may, our country’s biggest need is God.

Some would have stopped reading the preceding sentence, simply because our nation has lost its heart for God.

The fear of God is no longer in the hearts of people.

Criminals must realise that they are still under the judgment of a Holy God who will execute judgment according to his righteous fury.

Laugh, mock, scoff, but this is what we need. All the programmes have failed, our justice system is leaking, the hearts of people fail for fear, but my hope is steadfast in the God who made the universe.

He is watching and overshadowing those who fear his name and will live their lives to the honour of his name.

Join me in praying for our nation and that righteousness will prevail!

It’s the only solution that will actually work!
