RHODES CONCERT
The Rhodes University Orchestra, conducted by David Scarr, is hosting its annual Symphony Concert on Saturday at 7.30pm in the Guy Butler Hall at the Monument in Makhanda (Grahamstown). It will also perform on Sunday at 3.30pm in the NMU South Campus Auditorium in Port Elizabeth. The lineup includes prize-winning soloists Mvume Mdidimba (bassoon), Emma Farquarson (soprano) and Analisa Kelemi (mezzo soprano). The concert will also feature the RU Vocal Ensemble and guest virtuoso violinist Naomi Fokkens. Tickets are R100 adults, R50 (concessions), R40 block bookings. ART FOR ALZHEIMER’S
The Eastern Cape Region of Alzheimer’s SA presents ForgetMe-not, an exhibition responding to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease at the GFI Art Gallery in Park Drive. Psychiatrist Dr Reino Verster and clinical psychologist Mark Eaton will speak at the opening at 10am on Saturday. Admission is free. The gallery opens from 10am to 4pm weekdays and from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.

HIGHLAND GATHERING
St Andrew’s College will host a Highland Gathering on Saturday and Sunday in Makhanda (Grahamstown). Events over the two days include a kilted mile, ceilidh, massed pipes and drums, pipe band competition, Highland dancing competition, entertainment stage and Highland games. There will also be a children’s area and a flea market on Lower Field. All the activities will take place from The Highlander in Worcester Street and St Andrew’s Lower Field. Take part in one of four parkruns in Port Elizabeth: PE Hobie Beach, Lady Slipper, Wells Estate and Sardinia Bay. The parkrun is a 5km fun run at 8am every Saturday, which is free and open to all, but if you want a time please register for a barcode at www.parkrun.co.za. The Hobie run starts at the palm tree next to Shark Rock Pier; Sardinia Bay is at the Grass Roof in Heron Road; Lady Slipper is at Slipperfields, and Wells Estate is at St George’s Strand.
