Grey firsts excel at schools week

The Grey High School cricket teams had a busy and successful opening to the season, attending a number of festivals around the country during the holidays.

The first team did well at the Cape Schools Week in Cape Town, hosted by Rondebosch.

They beat Bishops, Sacs and Paarl Boys and then had an exciting draw against Wynberg.

The U15A team participat­ed in the Grey High Festival where they hosted 16 top schools for a four-day festival of cricket.

Of the top eight U15 teams in SA, only KES were absent.

The home side had an exceptiona­l week, cementing their position as the top U15 team in the country, winning all four of their games against teams in the top eight.

The second XI were also in Cape Town for the Cape Youth Week hosted by Westerford.

They won three matches and lost one.

The third team attended the Oakhill Festival in Knysna, winning three games and losing two.

The Grey U14A side went to Paarl for the Charl van Rooyen Week.

Faced with difficult batting conditions, they had a record of two wins, a loss and a draw. ● The Grey water polo first team enjoyed a successful run at the annual Sacs Festival in Cape Town.

After qualifying for the playoffs they lost narrowly in the quarterfin­als to Bishops.

The U14A team were also in Cape Town, where they lost 63 in the final to Rondebosch after having beaten Bishops 3-2 in the semifinals.

The Grey U15A team travelled to East London, where they lost to Selborne in the final of the Sterrenber­g Festival.
