Horse gets ‘whisperer’ treatment

● Cowboy helps Gogetthesheriff

- Punters’ Pal

The Sheriff is back in town, thanks to horse whisperer “Cowboy Marco”.

There is a good chance popular gelding Gogetthesheriff will make a comeback on the Fairview race track in the not too distant future.

Gogetthesheriff was the darling of the PE crowd when he was at his best.

The eight-year-old was last seen at Fairview when he was the favourite to win the November Stakes last year.

Unfortunately, he had problems at the start with an old behavioural problem at the pens that has been a headache for trainer Jacques Strydom.

Strydom said he and owner Freddie van Onselen decided to retire Gogetthesheriff but now there is hope again.

Wimpie Kruger has been a stalwart owner in the Strydom yard for many years and felt Gogetthesheriff should get another chance.

He bought the horse from Van Onselen and recently Marco Roux from Roux Horsemanship, or Cowboy Marco as he is known in the horse business, also stepped in.

Roux has been working with the Sheriff and he and Strydom feel that huge progress has been made to sort out the horse’s behavioural problems at the starting stalls.

“I was surprised when I saw the Cowboy’s hat in the air and knew that the Sheriff took off with Marco in the saddle.

“There is still some more work to be done. We are not in a hurry,” Strydom said.

Gogetthesheriff has won 13 races (nine on the polytrack) from 40 starts. He will hopefully be in action in the World Sports Betting East Cape Poly Challenge in 2019.
